My Experience
Here I will review what chiropractic means in my world and my experience with it…
Background and Qualifications
Hello, my name is Dr. Kristiane Schweitzer. I graduated from Southern California University of Health Sciences with Summa Cum Laude distinction in 2016 and graduated from Pierce College in 2001 for registered nursing. I decided to be a doctor of chiropractic because of how much my DC helped me in 2009. I was in a traumatic motor vehicle accident in 1994. My whole body was thrown into a car. Both my femurs fractured. My whole body disorganized. Several years later, when I came to my chiropractor, I was on disability and in a great deal of pain.
What brought me to him after living an active life even after my injuries? February, 2009, I just woke up one morning and couldn’t lift my leg into the car. It came out of nowhere! Following that incident, I tried allopathic medicine, being in the field already, but nothing was helping. I’d get mild relief from time to time, but nothing took away the deep hip/pelvic pain I had. I was even offered surgery to eliminate my pain. I didn’t want to go that route. I also didn’t want to be on pain medicine for the rest of my life. I wanted to live pain free and enjoy life. I was desperate, and it wasn’t until a friend told me about a bizarre experience she had with a chiropractor that I decided to check it out. (She had shoulder pain, but the cause was coming from another region of her body.) I thought “Why not, I’ve tried everything else.” Well, he blew my mind. He didn’t realign (adjust) one bone in my body until after three months of treatment. It was strictly soft tissue manipulation and energy work. After just a couple of months of treatment I was able to go back to work, hiking and do yoga. I felt better than I had in many years!
What does chiropractic mean in my world?
At Ideal Movement Chiropractic (IMC) I specialize in whole person healing. This includes skeletal muscle, fascia, bone, nerves and sometimes energy and emotional work. Although, some doctors of chiropractic focus on only manipulating bones, I believe that structures that are attached to the bones (muscles, fascia, nerves, energy, emotions), play an extremely important part in the healing process long term. I also believe that restoring movement and flexibility to the joints helps in activities of daily living and the enjoyment of them.
What I need from you?
If you decide to become a patient of mine, I need you to be committed to getting better. That’s it. I know, it sounds like a no-brainer, but is it? Are you willing to do the work that I give you to get yourself feeling like you did before the pain started? This work might include daily exercises that take 1-2 minutes to perform twice a day, or not doing something that has created the pain in the first place, like sleeping with your top leg crossed over your lower leg or slouching while looking at your phone or computer. It might simply include getting to your appointments on time or coming to your appointments consistently and trusting the process. If you can do these things and want to be a badass and get feeling better, then you are well on your way to having your life back!
True story…
The reason why I live pain free today is because I did the work to get better. I eventually got myself to the right healer and learned how to heal myself. This was no quick and easy task, but I persevered. Since my 1994 accident, I’ve had a punching bag incident and two more motor vehicle accidents, which left my cervical, thoracic, and lumbar discs herniated (see photo gallery). I was already set up for issues from the 1994 accident, so just imagine the work I’ve had to do to keep myself healthy and strong. Nowadays this mostly consists of weightlifting, Zumba, and a monthly wellness visit to my chiropractor. That’s it. All fun. But, I had to do the work. Was it worth it? Was it worth not being in pain, not taking pain pills, not having more surgeries? Heck yeah it was and is!
Realism
Believe me, I’ve been in some rough mental and emotional states where I wanted to give up. Maybe you don’t think you are good enough to feel better or you don’t deserve it. Perhaps you’ve been given everything and it’s hard to do things for yourself, you’re not confident. But these things simply aren’t true. You can do this for yourself. You are strong enough. You are good enough and you do deserve to feel better. Please know that. Ready?
